Mr. McGregor's Garden at Storybook Island

Project Description

A new educational garden for young children is located in Storybook Island. Open from Memorial Day through
Labor Day, the garden beds by Old MacDonald’s Barn include a garden of vegetables mentioned in the story by Beatrix Potter and a Sensory Garden planted with annuals and perennials designed for children to touch see and smell. Volunteers provide maintenance from May through October and provide a once-monthly activity related to plants on the third Saturday of the month (June through August). Maintenance has been on Friday mornings from 9:00 when the park opens but can be determined by the supporting volunteers. The plants are labeled and a brochure is available at the gardens describing the plants and how the children can interact with them. Our most popular plant is an African native plant that smells like popcorn when leaves are rubbed.
