

Become a Master Gardener
The Master Gardener Program
SDSU Extension’s Master Gardener program develops gardening enthusiasts into expert volunteers who share their research-based knowledge with community members across the state. Each year, Master Gardeners volunteer thousands of hours answering citizen questions and hosting community programs.
Program Requirements

Apply to the program

Complete online and in-person coursework

Pass the Master Gardener course exam with a score of 80% or better

Once coursework is complete, the Master Gardener is considered an intern until 40 hours of volunteer hours are completed (within the first year)

Once the hours are complete, the individual becomes a certified Master Gardener volunteer

To maintain certification, volunteers must log 20 hours of service and 10 hours of training every year
